NETIO PowerPDU 8QS is a PDU (Power Distribution Unit) with eight outputs (8x IEC-320 C13) for installation in a 19” cabinet (1U). Each output can be independently controlled over the Web, with a mobile app, from NETIO Cloud or using an Open API (SNMP or Modbus/TCP). Electrical measurements for the PDU as a whole and for Output 1 (All + 1).

Each output can be switched on at pre-defined times and days of week (Scheduler). Output states after power-up can be configured independently for each output (PowerUp state / PowerUp delay).

PowerPDU 8QS is a product for professional use. Output relays switch at zero voltage (ZVS) to avoid issues with the switching of devices that have a high inrush current. Electrical measurements (V, A, W, Wh, TPF, Hz) with an accuracy better than 1% over the entire operating temperature range.

With the NETIO Cloud service, the outputs can be controlled from anywhere. The NETIO Cloud service is provided for a fee but it uses SSL security and servers in Europe. The smart socket device can be also controlled using the NETIO Mobile2 app for Android.

Detailed information

Product detailed description

NETIO PowerPDU 8QS is a PDU (Power Distribution Unit) with eight power outputs (8x IEC-320 C13) controlled and metered over a LAN. It fits into a 19” cabinet (1U). Each output can be controlled independently. PowerPDU 8QS supports two channels for electrical measurements: the PDU as a whole (all outputs combined), and the first output separately (Output1). A digital input (DI) can be used to control the outputs or read S0 pulses (electricity meter output).

The device’s WEB interface can be used to control the outputs, configure the Scheduler for each output, and so on. With the NETIO Cloud service, the outputs can be controlled from anywhere. The NETIO Cloud service is provided for a fee, features SSL security and its servers are located in Europe.

Open API enables integration into third-party systems using a wide range of protocols (JSON, Modbus/TCP, SNMP, MQTT, Telnet, ...). NETIO PowerPDU 8QS can be controlled from multimedia AV systems (Crestron, RTI, Control4, …)

  • Power input:           1x IEC-320 C20, 110/230V (16A)
  • Power output:           8x IEC-320 C13 (max 10A / output)
  • Energy metering: Yes (Total + Output 1)
  • Each output can be switched on/off individually over the web
  • ZVS – Zero Voltage Switching for each output
  • Mobile app:                    NETIO Mobile2 (Android)
  • Cloud service: NETIO Cloud (with TLS security)

Use cases for the remotely controlled PDU

  • Restart over the Web
  • Energy savings (switching on/off at specified times)
  • Switching electrical outputs on/off with a mobile app
  • Power output switching and measurements using NETIO Cloud
  • Measuring the consumption history of the powered devices
  • Controlling the power (to TV sets, audio systems, lighting) from various AV systems in stores, smart homes, museums

Open API

The NETIO PowerPDU 8QS smart PDU supports measurement and control over the web. For Open API communication, M2M protocol can be chosen from among the following:

  • SNMP v1 / v2
  • SNMP v3
  • MQTT-flex (plain / TLS)
  • Modbus/TCP
  • Telnet
  • URL API (http get)
  • JSON over HTTP
  • XML over HTTP
  • HTTP(s) Push JSON
  • HTTP(s) Push XML

The SNMP protocol can be always used in parallel to other APIs.

Documentation for the protocols is available at the manufacturer’s website. The ANxx Application Notes provide useful deployment guidance.

Scheduler (weekly timer) can switch each output on/off at pre-defined times and days of week.

PowerUp sequence delays the switching on of each output by a defined delay after the device is powered up.

Electrical measurements for two channels: the PDU as a whole, and output 1 separately (All Outputs + 1). For both channels, the direction is taken into account when metering: there is a kWh counter for consumed energy and another kWh counter for reverse (supplied) energy.

The digital input (DI) can be connected to a button (dry contact) or used as a S0 pulse counter for reading energy consumption from an external electricity meter.

Professional product

  • Fits into a 19” cabinet as a 1U device
  • Input current up to 16A (output current max 10A / output)
  • PDU (Power Distribution Unit) with 8 independent outputs
  • Wide operating temperature range
  • Very low internal power consumption
  • Accurate electrical measurements, each unit is factory-calibrated.
  • PowerUp state – states of outputs after the device is powered up are configurable (On/Off/Last). A PowerUp delay can be configured for each output.
  • ZVS (Zero Voltage Switching) support is important when the connected equipment is switched on/off frequently (several times a day).
ZVS extends the lifetime of equipment with a high inrush current.
